Difference Between American and Canadian Government

Steven Harper is the Leader of our Country, which is Canada. The parties play a very important role in the government. The politcal party sets agendas for the the Prime Minister/ President, they nominate candidates for the office, they monitor the work of elected representatives and much more. The Politcal Party systems are in charge of the following: The relationship between the politcal parties in the legislature, the legislatures internal organization, stability and dynamics. The Executive Council is made up of a Premier and a Cabinet there role is to put government policy into practise, the Premier is the head of the Executive Council and he chooses who is going to be the Cabinet. The Cabinets role is to basically listen to what the Premier tells him to do, but they also have big responsibilities and roles some of which are they get to have a final say on a wide variety of issues related to day to day operations for the government, they also represent there commitees views. The Speakers role is well mainly fulfill it's title, which is basically speak for the the President/ Prime Minister in all of the assemblys. The oppositions role in the government is to critize the government and propose improvements. The oppositions are not part of any Government Pary though, but they introduce themselves as an alternative party. Alberta currently has 2 opposition parties, 1 is the liberal and the other one is the Alberta new Democratic Party. They are called the third party in the assembly. Generally the Canadians will vote around every 4-5 years. We however are not like the Americans because we do not have a fixed date on when we will vote. When the people of Canada feel like we need someone new to take over we will then hold an election.
Barack Obama is the leader of America. He was just barely elected and it was a pretty big thing because he was the first african american person to ever win an election in America. He is also one of the youngest presidents ever elected. The American Government also has different parties than the Canadian Government. The American Government has three levels, there is the Executive Branch- this is what category their president falls into and also his cabinets that he chose by himself and they mainly agree with him on all of the issues, then there is the Legislative Branch- This is the House of Representatives and the Senate, if the president wants to inforce a new law then he has to have 2/3 of the congress votes for the law to even be recongnized, this limits the presidents power significantly, then there is the Judicial Branch- they get to decided what is and what isn't constitutional, the supreme court is in charge of this branch and normally the president will choose someone that is sympathetic to his agenda but also the Congress has to approve of his descision and they have to like them also. The Americans are also different to the Canadian Government in how and when they vote. The Americans have a set date when they vote. They vote every four years on a set date and they vote on a tuesday in november every single year. They vote on tuesday's because back in the day people went to church on sunday went to the polls of monday and voted on tuesday and went home on wednesday, they just vote on tuesday to follow traditions.

If I got to meet Mr. Obama

If I got to meet Mr. Obama I would tell him that President Bush had the right idea and that he should keep going on the lines that he was on. He made a few wrong choices here and there, such as he chose Dick Cheney who owned alot of almost illegal companies. Seriously though who doesn't make mistakes.  I really don't have anything that I would tell him to change.

Britian-canada-britain-india

The British people were the most powerful in the late 19th century, and the Early 20th Century. Britain had wanted to stay in canada and in order for that to happen they had to " conquest" New France. After that had been said, 20 years later there was a huge group of british people that had fled to Canada. The " merchants and officials" who had social and political power were not able to go in the presence of the British people. At least until the American Revolution. Which caused like 40,000 50,000 people to flee to Canada. These people had a very strong impact on Canada. They were establishing different types of churches and religions and schools, and social and  government buildings. The british was obviously taking advantage of the imperialism that they had. There are some reasons for why the british were making some extraordinary changes. one of them was that the Canadian Government in 1897 had given goods to the british because of custom duties, which of course made the british empire very happy, and they took advantage of that as fast as they could.

Sudan

The controlling influence over a nation of people. This is something that the Sudan nation has to deal with on a day to day basis. Britain started to rule Sudan in 1881. Britain and Egypt came to a agreement that they would rule Sudan together. Some point in time during the 1920's they created what they call a " closed door", which means that they separated the people and there cultures of North Sudan and South Sudan. The people that live in North Sudan was full of people that belonged to the Arab Descent. In South Sudan people had the culture of African people.
Finally in 1956 the Sudan people broke free from the Britain's and the Egyptians. Then they decided that they needed to change some things. One of the things that they changed was the "closed door" they thought that they should be able to communicate with people in North Sudan and South Sudan. After things got changed back to how they were before, power was handed over to the Arabs in the North. Since the Sudan was fully populated with Arabs they made it so that everybody lived the way the Arabs did, no matter what there culture or religion was. The people that refused to live that way, were of course punished for there decision. This of course caused tension in the community between the Arabs and the Africans, the tension got so bad that it caused a civil war, which led to people leaving the community and displacement of Sudan's Indigenous people.  Some ways that could possibly fix these problems would be to let people live there own life, let them have their own religions. I think that the Arab's should be more tolerant of the situation, they should be more considerate on how the people think. I think that since they brought the south and the north back together that they should be willing to be open minded about what the people want. If they want to have their own religion they should be allowed, if they want to celebrate what their real cultures are they should be allowed to. If the government doesn't want to have civil wars going on then they should be more open minded about the rules they have made.

What World would you like to leave your children in?

I would not want my kids to live in this world. This world is a corrupt place to live, and I don't think that anyone feels safe to live in this world today. There are crimes being commited all around and wars starting in every country. I would want my kid to live in a safe and enviromental world. I would like my child to be able to have fun but at the same time be safe.

Potlatch

Potlatch is a social occasion given by a host so that people can uphold there status position in society. This occasion was often held to notice a significant event in there families. Some of these events would be like a child birth, a son's marriage or a daughters first menses. The potlatches were also big on having a huge feast and receiving gifts and also money. The host of the potlatch is the one giving away the gifts and the money. They were the ones offering the huge feast. The native peoples are normally the ones who held the potlatches. There are many tribes that hold these ceremonies . These occasions were normally held in a very large and long house. Houses are like these can also be described as the houses seen in the 18th century. I think that we still do these types of occasions to this day. I think that we just do it in a different type of way. People don't just do it for the fun of it, but they do it to add onto a celebration already being held. If someone was to get married or have a child there family might say that they want to take them on a trip and when they got back they would have another surprise waiting. I think that we still have these types of occasions but we definately do it in another way. Some people still to this day might still hold potlatches but as far as I know we don't hold them anymore. Like I said before I'm pretty sure that some people, most likely the richer people, hold fancy party's where they give gifts away and spend lots of money but I don't think they are as popular as they used to be.

The Declaration

The indigenous people were discriminated for a long time and now they have finally put their foot down. They want to be able to walk into a medical clinic or into a grocery store without being discriminated. They are sick and tired of being discriminated for something they didn't even do. They want to be acknowledged for who they really are. They want to start being called the Lubicons, and they want people to start recognizing there culture.

The Lubicon people are entitled to protect there culture. They have not had that opportunity before and they feel it is about time they start. The Lubicon's have not been acknowledge for there culture or for that matter they have barely even been recognized. They have been discriminated since day one, and they have finally got the nerve say somthing to the government. They decided it was time to put there foot down and stand up for there beliefs and there culture.

They want both male and female people to have a free life. They don't want only women to be discriminated they want all discrimination to be done with. They want to be both sex's to be able to live a life where discrimination is not allowed. The memories they will have forever, but they want to put all of that behind them. They want to start fresh and clean. They know that they will always remember how they were treated but they are ready to put that all behind them and start a new and better life.

Lubicon

THe lubicon people find themselves marginalized out of socialtcy because many people have tried to develope their land without asking. They started to protest once it got out of control. They decided that if the people would stay off there land they wouldn't make a big deal out of it. They met up with the government and told them that they didnt want anybody on their land and they wanted to be respected as the lubicon people. Nobody addressed them as there real name, and they wanted to start being called after there people.

National Sorry Days

The first national sorry day was held on May 26 1998. The cause for this day was because the government was attempting to take the Aboriginal and Torres Strait children away from their families. This day is celebrated every year on May 26 to remember the removals and the effects it has made. This day is also celebrated to recognize the mistakes that the people made to the indigenous people and so that they recovering process could begin. In 2005 it was renamed to the " National Healing Day". Then in the same year the National Sorry Day Committee named it back to the natural name, " National Sorry Day". On February 13 Kevin Rudd the Prime Minister made an apology speech. He made it very clear in how sorry he was and that they did not mean to cause this much damage. London was the first place to celebrate it outside of Australia. They are truly aware of the issues going on and they celebrated by preparing speeches and performances.

To what extent might aptn affect the identities of aboriginal people in canada?

I think that it will affect the identities of the Aboriginal peoples because that is what they always talk about.  Some families don't want there children to know any other language till there older and the children shows are only speaking there culture.

Food Alerts

The food products that have had warnings on them are Kaiser Pretzels and Koala's March Cookies. They may have melamine in them. Some Coffee Brands are being alert for Melamine.

Vote

I chose the Conservative Party because they were voted last year and I thought that they did a pretty good job. I don't think that we need a change, I think that what they did last year was just fine.

Space Offer

I would probably accept the offer. I think that it would be a great opportunity to be able to travel in space. I think that it would be a very good experience for me. I think that it would be fun and also a great learning opportunity. Seeing as how I dont know a lot about space I think that htis would be a very helpful opportunity and it would be a dumb idea to turn it down.

Social 10

What effects is UNESCO making to promote languages?

Diversity of a language is an essential feature of out collective humanity in the world. The UNESCO office went and supported the International Mother Language Day in Indonesia on February 21.  This day provided a great opportunity to discuss the activities for the languages spoken. The main idea of this discussion was trying to promote linguistic diversity and multilingual education.  There is already approximately 50% of the population disappearing. They hoped that by celebrating the mother tongue language day that more people would come back.

Afghanistan

I probably would go if I was absolutely needed. I don't think that I would be jumping up for joy to go across the world to a place where I wouldn't have all my needs. I'm so used to having unlimited food, water and shelter, I think it would be something that would defintately take time to get used to.  I will honestly say I don't think i would be thrilled to go in the beginning but in the end I think i would be so grateful that I had the opportunity to help save peoples lives.I do think that it would be a great experience for me to go there and help people that are in need. I think that it would help me grow as a person and at the same time I would be helping someone survive. It would be a honor to serve people that can't help themselves.
