Potlatch

Potlatch is a social occasion given by a host so that people can uphold there status position in society. This occasion was often held to notice a significant event in there families. Some of these events would be like a child birth, a son's marriage or a daughters first menses. The potlatches were also big on having a huge feast and receiving gifts and also money. The host of the potlatch is the one giving away the gifts and the money. They were the ones offering the huge feast. The native peoples are normally the ones who held the potlatches. There are many tribes that hold these ceremonies . These occasions were normally held in a very large and long house. Houses are like these can also be described as the houses seen in the 18th century. I think that we still do these types of occasions to this day. I think that we just do it in a different type of way. People don't just do it for the fun of it, but they do it to add onto a celebration already being held. If someone was to get married or have a child there family might say that they want to take them on a trip and when they got back they would have another surprise waiting. I think that we still have these types of occasions but we definately do it in another way. Some people still to this day might still hold potlatches but as far as I know we don't hold them anymore. Like I said before I'm pretty sure that some people, most likely the richer people, hold fancy party's where they give gifts away and spend lots of money but I don't think they are as popular as they used to be.

The Declaration

The indigenous people were discriminated for a long time and now they have finally put their foot down. They want to be able to walk into a medical clinic or into a grocery store without being discriminated. They are sick and tired of being discriminated for something they didn't even do. They want to be acknowledged for who they really are. They want to start being called the Lubicons, and they want people to start recognizing there culture.

The Lubicon people are entitled to protect there culture. They have not had that opportunity before and they feel it is about time they start. The Lubicon's have not been acknowledge for there culture or for that matter they have barely even been recognized. They have been discriminated since day one, and they have finally got the nerve say somthing to the government. They decided it was time to put there foot down and stand up for there beliefs and there culture.

They want both male and female people to have a free life. They don't want only women to be discriminated they want all discrimination to be done with. They want to be both sex's to be able to live a life where discrimination is not allowed. The memories they will have forever, but they want to put all of that behind them. They want to start fresh and clean. They know that they will always remember how they were treated but they are ready to put that all behind them and start a new and better life.

Lubicon

THe lubicon people find themselves marginalized out of socialtcy because many people have tried to develope their land without asking. They started to protest once it got out of control. They decided that if the people would stay off there land they wouldn't make a big deal out of it. They met up with the government and told them that they didnt want anybody on their land and they wanted to be respected as the lubicon people. Nobody addressed them as there real name, and they wanted to start being called after there people.

National Sorry Days

The first national sorry day was held on May 26 1998. The cause for this day was because the government was attempting to take the Aboriginal and Torres Strait children away from their families. This day is celebrated every year on May 26 to remember the removals and the effects it has made. This day is also celebrated to recognize the mistakes that the people made to the indigenous people and so that they recovering process could begin. In 2005 it was renamed to the " National Healing Day". Then in the same year the National Sorry Day Committee named it back to the natural name, " National Sorry Day". On February 13 Kevin Rudd the Prime Minister made an apology speech. He made it very clear in how sorry he was and that they did not mean to cause this much damage. London was the first place to celebrate it outside of Australia. They are truly aware of the issues going on and they celebrated by preparing speeches and performances.

To what extent might aptn affect the identities of aboriginal people in canada?

I think that it will affect the identities of the Aboriginal peoples because that is what they always talk about.  Some families don't want there children to know any other language till there older and the children shows are only speaking there culture.

Food Alerts

The food products that have had warnings on them are Kaiser Pretzels and Koala's March Cookies. They may have melamine in them. Some Coffee Brands are being alert for Melamine.

Vote

I chose the Conservative Party because they were voted last year and I thought that they did a pretty good job. I don't think that we need a change, I think that what they did last year was just fine.

Space Offer

I would probably accept the offer. I think that it would be a great opportunity to be able to travel in space. I think that it would be a very good experience for me. I think that it would be fun and also a great learning opportunity. Seeing as how I dont know a lot about space I think that htis would be a very helpful opportunity and it would be a dumb idea to turn it down.
